Last Day in Chiang Mai
A little sad, but more expectation leaving Chiang Mai. I’ve settled in well here. There’s a shortcut to the old city moat starting at the dead end of my road. Shortcuts, like understanding jokes in a new language, can make you feel at home. I’ve most certainly discovered shortcuts, barked up alleys of the unknown. So my last walkabout my neighborhood, and I further explored the shortcut. And came across this wall of art. The towering office building seems to be defunct, and this adjacent treed lot is open season, an opening to this art project. It seems coordinated but different artists. It’s dated 2020. I walked by the art school yesterday. It was a pretty impressive compound. I’d love to find openings into the cutting-edge art scene in the countries I visit. The cafe international expat music and cafe scenes. Progressive DEI politics. Hopefully, I’ll have a nose for them.

Then onto my last meal at Free Bird. It’s 3 blocks from me, so I’ve become a regular. (Rosemary Cafe and In the Bread, too.) Here’s the opening page from their menu, a page from the inside, too.

This is my lunch:
Along with green papaya-potato fritters and an iced lavender-limeade.
